Sometimes, even after a restful night’s sleep, it can be hard to feel alert and vibrant...especially when you look in the mirror and see tired, droopy eyes. The loose skin over your eyes and the fat bags under your eyes often make you look older than you feel.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Each year thousands of women and men choose eyelid surgery for a more energetic and youthful appearance. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) can correct sagging eyelids, remove fatty pouches beneath the eyes and remove excess skin from the upper eyelids.

Blepharoplasty is performed alone or in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures such as a facelift, brow lift or skin resurfacing.

Your Consultation
During your initial cosmetic consultation, Dr. Hopping discusses your specific condition, your expectations, the procedure and the probable outcome of treatment. You may be shown several before and after treatment photographs of patients having a similar condition. Dr. Hopping often uses a computer-imaging system to simulate anticipated results. Many patients choose to combine an eyelid procedure with other cosmetic enhancements
.

The Procedure
Dr. Hopping performs blepharoplasty in the comfort and convenience of The Center for Cosmetic Surgery, an AAAHC-certified center. It is performed under local anesthesia or sedation anesthesia. The procedure takes between one and two hours, depending on the extent of the surgery. After eyelid cosmetic surgery, patients have a brighter, more relaxed and youthful appearance…as well as a new spring in their step.

Recovery
The eye area may be bruised and swollen for about two weeks. Patients are instructed to keep their heads elevated and to place cold compresses on their eyes periodically. Patients are not able to wear contact lenses for about two weeks, since the eyelids may be stiff and sore. The resulting thin scars which follow the natural contour of your eyelids tend to fade in about two months.

Expected Results
Your surgical outcome depends on the extent of the surgical correction, your skin structure and the healing process. Heredity, age and other physical characteristics also play a part in your outcome. Natural, rejuvenated results are the aesthetic goals for all eyelid procedures. The good news is that eyelid rejuvenation surgery enjoys long-lasting results. Most patients require eyelid rejuvenation surgery only once in a lifetime.
